Plants offer more than just charm; they interact with your body and mind. Plants enhance not only the look of your home but the quality of your life.
1. Breathing Easier
Plants, during photosynthesis, do exactly the opposite of humans; they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This makes plants our perfect symbiotic partner. So, adding plants to the interior of our homes increase oxygen levels.
2. Releasing Water
Plants release about 97 of the water they take in. By placing a few plants together, you can increase the humidity of a room. Studies have shown that using plants in interior spaces decreases the incidence of dry skin, colds, sore throats and dry coughs.
3. Purifying Air
Indoor plants are particularly responsible for filtering three chemicals, Benzene, Formaldehyde and Trichloroethylene, from the air. It is estimated that fifteen of these plants can refresh and clean the air in a 1,800-square foot house.
4. Improving Health
One study suggests that adding plants to hospital rooms speeds recovery rates of surgical patients. Patients also requested less pain medication, had lower heart rates and blood pressure, were less fatigued and suffered less anxiety. They have also shown to have a positive health effect in office spaces.
5. Sharpening Focus
Students demonstrated 70% greater attentiveness when taught in rooms containing plants. Attendance was also higher for lectures given in classrooms with plants. (Royal College of Agriculture, England study)
