Just in time for the holidays! Discover the three outstanding wines we recently showcased in BOOM’s first-ever virtual wine tasting event.
In November, BOOM Members were invited to a wine tasting evening live on Facebook with Bruce, a wine consultant and sommelier with Crowfoot Wine & Spirits.
Bruce selected three wines by prestigious German winemaker Andreas Bender, who creates modern-style wines using traditional methods. Bender believes in sustainable farming and describes his no-intervention winemaking practices as “controlled doing nothing.”
These wines were chosen for their flavour, especially when paired with turkey and other holiday food.
“We’re thrilled to have Andreas onboard here at Crowfoot,” Bruce says. “Overall, these wines represent great value for the money and a surprising level of sophistication and complexity given their price point."
Bruce says all three have fruity flavours to complement winter spices and enhance the flavour of turkey.
“The Kulina Gewürztraminer and the Riesling both make excellent choices with acidity to help cleanse the palate, allowing you to wade effortlessly through the turkey trimmings," he says.
“The Kulina Pinot Noir, with soft tannins and a medium body, is a red wine that won’t overshadow your feast.”

Andreas Bender Kulina Gewürztraminer
Pfalz, Germany
A beautiful nose of rose petals, mango puree and pear, with a hint of nutmeg and cloves. Lush mouth feel. There is a roundness to the lychee fruit, pear and baking spice flavours. A dry Gewürztraminer, with a clean and refreshing finish.
Andreas Bender Kulina Riesling
Mosel, Germany
With its light honey colour, this is sunshine in a glass! A lush mouth feel with a touch of residual sugar on the finish. Flavours of lime, mineral and mango puree with hints of honey. An incredible balance of sweetness and acidity.
Andreas Bender Kulina Pinot Noir
Pfalz, Germany
Charming with vibrant aromas of red fruits and subtle spicy notes complemented by vanilla bean and rich caramel from the oak barrique aging. The palate is perfectly balanced; fine and elegant with soft tannins and a long finish.
